I grew up in Bay Springs, Mississippi, population approximately 1500, and left as soon as I could. All I wanted was to see that little town in my rear view mirror. I spent the next forty-plus years moving from Laurel, Mississippi to Ohio, Florida, and then lived in Dallas, Texas for almost two decades. During that time, I made a career as a legal secretary. I've worked for one-man offices. I've worked for very small firms, and then spent many years working for several of the largest law firms in the South and Southeast.
Life has a way of bringing you full circle. Today, I am married to my eighth-grade sweetheart and after a few years of retirement and building our dream home back in Bay Springs, we reinvented our lives once again. We sold everything and bought a tiny piece of land near Clifton, Tennessee. I wanted less, not more. I wanted my husband to have to work less, not more. Downsizing was more painful than we imagined and three years into this new stage of life, we're still not done.
We live in a motor home perched on the banks of the mighty Tennessee River, watching the huge barges being pushed in one direction or another, million dollar yachts of all sizes, cruise ships, gigantic NASA ships, and innumerable bass boats, pontoons, johnboats, jet skis, kayakers, and even the occasional floating shanty parade by. We had intended to travel, but such a magic spell the River holds over us! We live on vacation, we like to say. Why go anywhere when you already live in an enchanted place?
Thanks so much for looking at my page and blog. I am always looking for a good story, an idea for another book, so please share experiences if you like!
I'm working on my next novel, a crime story set in Mossville, Mississippi (today, known as Moss). I'll keep you updated about publication dates and availability; if you enjoy One Small Mistake, you will probably enjoy the next book.
