One Small Mistake
One Small Mistake is the story of the death of a young child in a small, deeply religious southern town, and a connection to the horrific world of child pornography. The writer used her own home town, Bay Springs, Mississippi, as the setting for this drama, but all the characters are fictional, other than portions of the author's life story interwoven within the pages. It's an easy read, good for a rainy afternoon or a day at the beach.
While I've been working on getting One Small Mistake ready for publication and distribution, I've been inspired to write a few articles for local newspapers, and they have kindly used my pieces. My first article was inspired by the demolition of Bay Springs' one movie theatre, The Lyric. If you grew up in Jasper County in the sixties and seventies, that was the place to be on Saturday nights. Unfortunately, after it was closed in the mid-late seventies, time took its toll on the old building, and finally, a storm in 2019 made it a health hazard. The City was compelled to demolish the old building, but my heart cried out when I saw the empty lot. I have so many childhood and teenage memories connected to the old movie house.
Being encouraged by the Jasper County News edition that carried my Lyric article, I submitted another for consideration. The impact of a Christmas in Bay Springs from 1961 came pouring out of my keyboard, and again, that article was published.
I followed those with an article that was published by The Laurel Leader-Call recounting my memories of that city's Christmas parade, held at night in 1966, and the beauty and magic of that time. It ran in the Christmas Eve edition that was filled with other Christmas stories.
My reward for those articles was the thanks and enthusiasm of many readers. Most people were so kind, so encouraging, and shared how much they enjoyed going on a trip back to the past where my words took them.
I have attached photos of the articles from the papers, but they will be too hard to enlarge and read comfortably, so I have also attached in pdf format the documents themselves.
If you are a nostalgia junkie, as I am, you might enjoy perusing these articles. By the time you have reached my age, a lot of memories from the past have mellowed and will tug at your heartstrings.
I hope you enjoy, and I look forward to hearing from you!
